I was out in the field with Bridget and Jack for their sunset portraits when I noticed guests drifting out of the tent behind us. The sky over Pole Creek Ranch had turned so gorgeous that nobody wanted to miss it. Within a few minutes, everyone was outside with their phones up, so we gathered the whole crowd for one big, chaotic group photo.
That moment summed up these two perfectly. Bridget and Jack came down from Seattle for their Pole Creek Ranch wedding in Sisters, and they’re the kind of fun, silly couple who keep everyone around them laughing.
Photos were really important to them, but they didn’t want to spend hours posing for them. They wanted to be present with their people and have images that would bring them right back to how it all felt. That sunset group photo, with every one of their favorite people crowded into a single frame, is exactly the kind of moment they were hoping for.
If you’re planning a Pole Creek Ranch wedding, I’m sharing how Bridget and Jack’s day unfolded, plus what I’d want you to know about the venue before you book.

Pole Creek Ranch is a working cattle ranch, and the drive in is so unassuming that you’d never guess what’s waiting at the end of it. Red Angus graze the meadows, and on a clear day you can see the Cascade Mountains, with the Three Sisters right behind the ceremony spot.
What I love most is that the ranch sits right in the town of Sisters but still feels completely private. It’s a blank slate for couples who want to do their own thing, which made it a great fit for Bridget and Jack. You bring your own caterer and bar team, and the ranch provides tents and a prep kitchen for them.
The main house is beautiful for getting ready, and the ceremony and reception both happen in the backyard. The ranch hosts up to 200 guests from May through October, and on-site lodging sleeps 13.

Bridget and Jack wanted their wedding day to reflect who they are, right down to how they saw each other for the first time.
Instead of a traditional first look where the bride taps the groom on the shoulder, we had Jack wait outside. As Bridget approached, she called out to him, and he turned around to see her. They met each other halfway, creating a sweet, natural moment that felt completely like them.
Their ceremony included another personal touch. Bridget’s parents walked her partway down the aisle before she continued the rest of the way on her own.
These small choices made their celebration feel wonderfully personal, and I loved getting to photograph them for these intimate moments.

One of my favorite memories from this Pole Creek Ranch wedding happened during sunset portraits.
The evening light was absolutely beautiful, so Bridget and Jack stepped outside for a few photos together. Before long, guests started wandering out of the reception tent to admire the sunset and take their own photos.
What started as a sweet moment for the newlyweds turned into a spontaneous group photo with their guests. It was a little chaotic, incredibly fun, and completely fitting for a couple with such playful personalities.
Those unexpected moments are some of my favorite things to photograph because they capture the energy of a wedding day in a way you could never plan.

Plan for the heat
Central Oregon summers can get hot, especially during outdoor ceremonies, so plan for a tent, shade, and plenty of water for your guests.
Ask about Henry the beer burro
The ranch’s donkey, Henry, can join your cocktail hour as a “beer burro.” It was too hot for him to come out for Bridget and Jack, so have a backup plan on hot days.
Bring your own vision
The ranch gives you a blank slate, so it’s perfect if you want to choose your own caterer, bar, and design.
Save time for golden hour
Even if you don’t want a lot of portrait time, step out for sunset. Some of the best photos from Bridget and Jack’s day happened in those few minutes.
