Lake Creek Lodge Wedding

Mickey and Phil met while in college at the University of Oregon when they were both on the sailing team. He made a move their senior year, and they’ve been sailing together ever since (awful pun, I had to!) In Mickey’s words, she says “it was another two thousand years before we went out to Steen’s Pillar on a hike and it was so hot I wanted to turn around – but made it through like a champ and came out with a mineral and all grins on the other side”
Mickey’s favorite moment of their wedding day was when Kurt, the officiant, was reading through their vows. As Kurt spoke about the wind carrying them through, a gentle breeze swept through the venue. Mickey vividly remembers listening to Kurt’s words, feeling the breeze, and gazing at Phil with overwhelming emotions.

Phil’s favorite moment was the first look. It was a special and intimate moment shared between the two of them before the day’s festivities began. The first look was the kickoff of a fun day and set a sweet tone for the celebrations that followed.

Questions for the couple:

Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding?

We worked with a planner throughout the whole process and it was the best decision for us since we were both working and I was finishing school – Emily at Ponderosa Planning made everything easy. As the bride I come from a DIY family, and learned that I needed to assign people ‘tasks’ or wedding crafts to keep people busy and occupied. In hindsight, I learned that I should have asked my aunts to host an engagement party because they wanted to be INVOLVED in the wedding planning process, and that would have been a productive distraction.

Did your wedding incorporate any special history, hobbies, or passions that are special to you as a couple?

We had a paint by numbers from a hike we did for Phil’s birthday which was fun to have. We were pretty low key and just wanted to have good food, good company, and good fun. We did an after party at our friends’ cabin (Cabin 17!!!) and it was verrry fun. We had to turn off outdoor music by 10, but having a plan for an after party was the money move.

From their planner Emily, of Ponderosa Planning “I loved working with Mickey and Phil. When we first met, they were looking for a relaxed outdoor venue, possibly with camping or lodging on site. Lake Creek Lodge ended up being a great fit because Camp Sherman has so many awesome campsites right on the river, as well as enough cabins on site for all their out of town guests. I really clicked with Mickey and Phil over our shared love of road trips, dogs, and skiing. I was fortunate enough to work with them from the very beginning to plan the elevated summer camp wedding they were dreaming of. The only vendor they had hired was Kayla as their photographer– lucky for me because we love working together! Their wedding day was full of whimsy, delicious food, and a relaxed atmosphere. Definitely one of our favorites from the 2022 season.”
